COMMENTS ON THE PHOTO:

NGC 1365 is a vast and majestic barred spiral galaxy, around 200,000 light years across (twice the size of the Milky Way). It lies just 60 million light-years from us in the direction of the constellation Furnace,

The bars of the galaxy are composed mainly of old stars, while the inner parts of the spirals contain mainly young stars.

This image reveals regions of intense, reddish star formation near the ends of the galaxy’s central bar and along its spiral arms. At the heart of the galaxy is a supermassive black hole.
