COMMENTS ON THE PHOTO:

The spiral galaxy NGC 6744 measures nearly 175,000 light-years across, larger than our own Milky Way. It lies some 30 million light-years away in the southern constellation of Pavo.

An extended arm passes in front of the small satellite galaxy NGC 6744A at the top right. The galactic companion of NGC 6744 is reminiscent of our Milky Way’s satellite galaxy, the Large Magellanic Cloud.
