COMMENTS ON THE OBJECT:

The Iris Nebula or NGC 7023 is located 1300 light years from Earth, in the constellation Cepheus. NGC 7023 is a magnificent example of a reflection nebula: the radiation is not strong enough to excite the atoms of the dust cloud and thus produce light, as is the case for simply reflects the light of a very bright star, in this case the star SAO 19158, magnitude 7. It is not the only nebula in the sky that looks like a flower. The blue reflection area of the Iris Nebula is about 6 light years across, but the surrounding clouds of gas and dust (dark nebulae) can be seen to be much larger.
