COMMENTS ON THE PHOTO:

NGC 1300 is a barred spiral galaxy in the constellation Eridan. Barred spirals are different from normal spiral galaxies in that the arms of the galaxy do not form a spiral to the centre, but are connected at both ends by a straight bar of stars containing the nucleus at its centre.

The photo shows blue clusters of young stars, pink clouds where new stars are forming and dark bands of dust, particularly in the bar of the galaxy.

Its estimated distance is 68.8 million light-years. Its diameter is estimated at 129,000 light-years.
