COMMENTS ON THE PHOTO:

NGC 4536 (bottom left in the photo) was first discovered by William Herschel in 1784. Located about 50 million light-years away in the constellation Virgo, NGC 4536 is not part of the main Virgo group of galaxies, but is one of the Virgo II subgroups, in this case part of the group containing M61. This group is also catalogued as LGG 287. The Virgo II subgroups are part of a long southern tail of the main Virgo group.NGC 4536 appears to be undergoing some form of starburst, although there is no obvious interacting galaxy. It is classified as SAB(rs)bc.

Also nearby, (top left) and part of the same subgroup, is the intermediary spiral NGC 4527 (also discovered by William Herschel). To date, nearly fifty non-redshift measurements give a distance of 14.560 ± 3.332 Mpc (∼47.5 million a.l, which is well outside the Hubble distance values.
