COMMENTS ON THE OBJECT:

Sh2-129, also known as the Flying Bat Nebula, is an HII-region emission nebula located about 1,300 light years (al) from Earth in the constellation Cepheus.

Another nebula, Ou4, can be seen through the nebula at a distance of around 2,300 light years. It was discovered by the French amateur astronomer Nicolas Ouitters.

The attractive bipolar shape of the Calamari Nebula is distinguished here by the telltale blue-green emission from doubly ionised oxygen atoms.

The squid nebula is thought to measure almost 50 light-years across.
