COMMENTS ON THE PHOTO:

The Medusa Nebula, also known as Abell 21 and Sharpless 274, is a large planetary nebula located in the constellation Gemini, near the border with the constellation Little Dog. It was discovered in 1955 by George Abell. It is named after the luminous filaments of gas, reminiscent of Medusa’s ‘hair’ from Greek mythology.

The nebula was thought to be a supernova aftermath until the early 1970s. In 1971, Soviet astronomers determined that it is actually a planetary nebula.
